At Competition Composites Inc. (CCI), tooling is more than just a means to an end, it’s the foundation of quality composite manufacturing. Our team designs and fabricates custom tooling solutions for in-house projects as well as for other composite manufacturers across North America. Whether for one-off prototypes or repeatable production runs, we provide accurate, durable tools that ensure consistent part performance and surface finish.

Advanced CNC-Cut Tooling

Class A moulds begin with high quality plugs.   Our in-house 5-axis CNC milling machine enables us to manufacture highly accurate plugs and patterns from MDF and tooling board.   Complex geometries and compound curves can be handled with confidence – and our milling envelope is a substantial 5m x 2m x 1.5m.     

Our finishing process includes sanding, polishing, and surface sealing to ensure the plug is ready to pull a top quality mould from.   Choose the technology best suited to the parts that will be moulded.  We work with polyester tooling gelcoats and epoxy surface coats, fiberglass and carbon fiber tool laminates, and incorporate seals and ports where needed.

Dimensional Verification and Quality Assurance

To guarantee precision, CCI offers 3D scanning and digital verification services. Our process includes scanning completed tooling and comparing it to the original CAD model, generating detailed deviation maps that confirm tolerances are met before production begins. This added layer of quality assurance reduces rework, minimizes material waste, and builds confidence in every part produced from our tooling.
