CCI Completes First Delivery of Communications Shelters for RCMP and Coast Guard

CCI has successfully completed the first year of deliveries under a five-year standing offer with the Canadian government, supplying six fiberglass communications shelters to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG). Deliveries began in January 2026 and were completed in March 2026, with four units going to the RCMP and two to the CCG.

What these shelters do

The shelters are designed to house antenna systems in remote locations, where conventional infrastructure is not available. Given the environments they operate in, the units are typically transported to installation sites by helicopter, placing strict demands on weight, durability, and structural integrity.

CCI manufactured the shelters from fiberglass, including the structural beams the shelters mount to. This is a meaningful departure from previous approaches that relied on solid wood or metal I-beams. The fiberglass alternative delivers a lighter overall assembly and a significantly longer service life, both critical factors for equipment that is costly to access and replace once installed in the field.

Designed to specification

This contract was won through a competitive tender on the Buy and Sell federal procurement platform. CCI was awarded the standing offer based on its ability to engineer a design that met the full specification requirements outlined in the RCMP's bid materials. The result is a shelter built precisely to the operational needs of the end user, without compromise.

A significant manufacturing challenge

One of the defining aspects of this program was the timeline. CCI was required to design and fabricate all custom tooling (moulds) for the shelters and deliver the first six production units, all within 12 months of contract award.

CCI's in-house tooling capabilities were central to meeting this commitment. Using its 5-axis CNC milling machine, the team produced accurate, production-ready moulds that allowed the shelter program to move from design to delivery without delay. Meeting that schedule with new tooling and a new product is a meaningful demonstration of what the facility is capable of.

“We were very pleased to have risen to the challenge of producing high quality moulds for this project and delivering 6 units, all within a 12 month timeframe, and look forward to seeing photos of the initial installations. Having secured a contract of this size with the Canadian government provides the security of knowing we will have this domestic revenue source over the next few years."

Looking ahead

This first delivery is the beginning of a longer program. The standing offer runs for five years, including three committed years and two option years, providing CCI with a stable domestic revenue stream and ongoing opportunities to supply government clients with precision composite solutions.

With tooling in place and the first production run complete, CCI is well positioned to fulfill future drawdowns efficiently and to the same standard that secured the contract.
